The Bollywood

>
>
During  the year I was living in Karachi, Pakistan, a large part of the TV programming besides the national programming were Indian music shows and Indian movies of the “Bollywood” Variety, which I came to appreciate and like, so much so that I actually miss it sometimes. So, in honor of the great “Bollywood” shows and movies, I name this sandwich “The Bollywood” 🙂

Chili/Duck Rice Sticks

>
>
The  other day I roasted a whole duck to have for dinner but when it was almost done a friend called me to invite me for dinner, so I put the whole shamuckus in the fridge for the next day to be used. The following dish was the result and I must say – what an extraordinary satisfying result it was, both visual and taste-wise, which just goes to show (again) that sometimes leftovers are better than the original. (Mind you – not alway’s – but often enough)

Wat
ch an Off-the-Rails, Totally Bonkers Shrimp Frying Video from Japan

The women in this video have a Rube Goldberg-style device that fries prawns by catapulting them through walls of flour, oil, and fire.

It’s one minute of maximum weirdness, and you might want to watch it more than once to catch all the nuances of this stunt.

Morcilla And Garbanzos

>
>
Friday  night I had my good friend Curtis over for dinner. I made a dish which one usually would not think of serving to friends for dinner, unless they are Latino, Swabian, Austrian (or in any other way weird) 🙂
But honestly, serving Morcilla (Blutwurst, Blood pudding, Blood Sausage, Boudin Noir) to guests requires that you either know their taste in food very well or that you are silly  and take a great risk and probably end up ordering take-out pizza:-)
However, Curtis was happy with the dish and so were Bella and I. I actually  thought it was wonderful and very special.

This kind of food does not appeal to me much on a regular basis, mostly because it is usually done badly, but in this particular environment with this particular company and service I am sure I would have a blast (as long as nobody pulls out a cellphone/camera 🙂

Eat Well On $ 4.00 A Day

I am  not in the business of promoting cookbooks, but when I saw this today I thought sharing it would make a few folks happy, either by using some of the recipe’s themself or by re-sharing the book with other, less fortunate people 🙂
When I saw the first promo for this book I expected a crappy, “green”, self-help booklet of the forgettable type. Boy was I wrong !  The recipes, pictures and comments in this book are all first class. My chef’s hat off to  Leanne Brown  , for creating this jewel of a cook book with great, economically priced, attractive and yummy  food. It is a tour de force of a smart and loving approach to unpretentious good food, which shows nothing but passion and great professionalism of the author. Needless to say, the recipes are all yummy enough even if you are not on a budget 🙂

– How about this little snack I whipped up last night.
Accompanied by a nice bottle of merlot.
Happily shared with Bella  (the snack, not the wine 🙂

Sauteed Pickled Herring And Potato Patty (“Pommes De Terre Macaire” With A Twist)

>
>
Once  a regular item on a menu, I have not seen pommes macaire on a menu for many years. What a shame, since they are such a great dish and so easy to prepare. Another thing that baffles me is that whenever I ask folk’s if they like pickled herring, the answer is usually no. Then how come I  see  pickled herring  and/or  roll mops  on just about every supermarket shelf? Somebody must be buying 🙂
>
So when I had some leftover baked potatoes, I first thought of making another twice baked potato, but I cooked that often lately so I wanted to come up with something different and yummy, so here it is : Herring and potato patty, served with spicy potatoes and wasabi.
