Now that I am back in Germany, seafood is much harder to come by for me than back in Miami, and the variety does not even come close. At least, some of the folks who complained in the past about too much seafood on  ChefsOpinion  can now be more entertained with a wider variety of meat dishes, since the variety of dishes prepared with meat is so much larger here than there 🙂
However, just like I lusted over the past few Decades for familiar meat dishes from my original home, I now miss the seafood that was so readily available to me on my travels through the Caribbean, South East Asia, South America, the Orient, Alaska, Florida and so many other places along or close to the coasts´ of the World, especially at my other home Florida, where one can always count on ones friendly ?? neighborhood Asian market with their endless fresh/ live seafood selections.
So now, every so often, I will still splurge on a big portion of good-quality seafood for Bella and me, to make sure we don´t lose our touch with that part of happy eating.  🙂

From our new Home………

.
.

.

.

Dear Friends,
.
After nearly two years of planning, Bella and I have finally arrived in our new, ( permanent? ) home, Germany.
Of course, America is my home as much as Germany, so I hope I can travel between the two countries often. I still maintain a small place in Miami, but for now, my base will be Germany, until…………..?
As of now, we stay at a small apartment near Cologne, but I am actively searching for a much larger place up North, hopefully near the coast.
Until we have settled in, which I estimate will take at least another couple of months, I won´t be able to post at my usual pace, pls forgive me.
My pots and pans, cameras, china, utensils, etc., are still in a container on the High Seas.
But, when all the dust has settled, I hope we can proceed at our regular, about two posts a week, speed. After all, we´ve got to eat !  🙂
Until then, most of the dishes I´ll post will be food I have prepared, written the recipes for, taken pictures and stored them,  during the past few months.
.
Until soon,
Bella and Hans
.

.
So here is Miami, Florida, which we left behind.
Below that is Cologne, Germany, where we moved to (happily, I might add)  🙂

Crappy Weather Food – Beef, Beans And Other Stuff

Meanwhile, in Florida…….

>
Hurricane season has finally arrived in Florida, and boy, has it ARRIVED 😦
While God has spared us a hurricane so far, we had constant rainstorms for the past two weeks, resulting in extensive flooding, turning many streets into rivers and parking lots into lakes.
Hearty food is the partial answer to that misery, making up for the fact that outside grilling and outside cooking in general, is suspended for the moment.
This beef stew with potatoes, tomatoes, onions, garbanzos, white beans, red beans and black beans is the perfect food to enjoy while looking out the window, watching the world drowning in rain and misery 😦

Pork Soup With Pork & Leek Dumplings, Baby Bok Choy And Scallions

>
>
This will be my last meal in 2014. It fit’s the occasion of a New Years Eve Diner well for me, since I adore pork dumplings in soup and it is the perfect dish to devour while watching TV . Bella and I are spending the evening  watching movies and every hour on the hour the fireworks from around the world. It started of with Sidney a couple of hours ago, which, as usual, had one of the most spectacular displays. Later when the clock strikes midnight here in Florida, we’ll go outside and watch the fireworks at  the nearby airport live from our backyard. Not as glamorous as the one in Sidney, but………..
After that we will enjoy a night cup of hot chocolate and doughnut holes with caramelized pineapple and banana.
Boy, how things have changed for me from just a few years back :-).
Nowadays, I leave the wild partying to the kid’s and the kid’s at heart. Strangely enough, I don’t miss the partying a bit. (Yet?)

This  must be my 25th different use for beef ribs other than just plain BBQ.
Incidentally, this is also without a doubt one of my best loved way’s to cook beef rib’s.
It is a bit robust for this time of the year here in Florida, but as I said often –
thank’s God for A/C 🙂
