    1. I was gonna post my own comment but I think I will just piggy back off yours. Give me my cheese my glock 22 and my Bushmaster A.R.’s. But there is still no way a cheese should be illegal here.

      1. We can get these cheeses, we just can’t get the uberdelicious unpasteurized versions that they offer in Europe. If you’ve ever eaten real French fromage you would understand. And I can’t even begin to tell you how upset the CA foie gras ban has made me. Uneducated, reactionary fools put that law into place.

    2. And that means you’re a sad sad man. And nowhere does it say in our constitution that you have the right to own a gun. It says “arms” not guns. who decided that it means guns and why can’t I own a missile or posses a bomb. If the government can make those illegal it can make guns illegal without violating anyone’s constitutional rights since a bomb and a missile is a kind of arms and their illegal. It must be sad to care about something so unimportant as a gun.

  3. It’s stupid to ban French cheeses…equally stupid NOT to ban assault weapons. I’m sick of the gun nuts ranting about their second amendments rights and saying stupid things like “guns don’t kill, people do” while innocent people’s lives are taken by lunatics that shouldn’t own ANY weapon.

      1. My apologies to all who read my earlier comment. It was an ignorant comment from an otherwise sensible man. I tend to get a little heated when people lump me, my family and friends in with morons like the guy who shot up the aurora theater and other idiots like him. My family have owned several guns for generations now and have never gone off the deep end like that. This country was founded on men like those in my family. The kind that go to war because they believe in their country and their freedoms and would like to keep them. I am tired of being attacked by my fellow Ameeicans because I enjoy freedoms you choose not to partake in. Is this my fault? No, so why must I be lumped in with the idiots that use their weapons for wrong rather than good? If this freedom bothers you so much there are plenty of other countries that don’t allow you so much as a hunting rifle. Just remember the next time you gripe about the second amendment that it is thanks to guys and gals with guns that you are even allowed any of the freedoms that you do enjoy. However cheese should never be on a “Black List”. Again my apologizes for my earlier ignorance.

      2. Matt, you apologize and then go on to insult and “lump” me into a particular group of people. My dad and brother were both marines. My dad was in Korea. My husband did two tours of Vietnam. Oh and he’s a police officer. We own guns; we’re just not gun nuts who think the entire country needs to own assault rifles. I don’t think it should be easier to get a gun than a driver’s license.

Because it was too difficult for you to understand, let me explain part of my comment to you. I am not “griping” about the 2nd amendment…I hold our Constitution and its Bill of Rights very dear. I was “griping” about it being used (incorrectly) to defend the uncontrolled sale of weapons that have no purpose other than to take human life. Your intense anger and the fact that you apparently think the nut in Aurora had every right to own as many weapons as he could afford to stockpile is very telling.

  4. Those guns that have given you you’re freedoms were done in a war scenario fought by soldiers, not with guns purchased by a 24 year old with ammunition readily available to morons that shop at Wal Mart. Your ammendment allows you the right and that’s fine, but the use of an automatic weapon outside of war is not something that you could debate. In a country that barks about the strongest army in the world, protection at home should not be something that needs to be guarded with automatic guns. Police use pistols, I’m sure you’d survive. Make ammunition less available and give people annual maximums that they can purchase because nobody is doing aything noble with 600 rounds of assault rifle ammunition. The cheese is to prove a point, that most Americans care more about their persona of being this “free” country (as corrupt as the voting system has proven to be and despite the fact that you are barraged by more marketers and corporations than any other country in the history of the world) rather than being the smartest, most sane, most caring, most advanced, most civil or even most friendly.

I have travelled to South American and Europe and both times were advised to wear a Canadian Flag patches on my bags as opposed to my red white and blue in order to dissuade any attacks from locals.

      2. I also dont believe the whole country needs an AR but if they would like to purchase it legally then please do so. Do I believe that psycos and gang bangers deserve them? No and not only no but hell no. However I dont want my rights removed because of people who believe that only psycos and gang bangers own these styles of weapons. Instead of a petition to eradicate AR’s how bout a petition to allow french cheese in to our country.

    1. All legitimate points, but do you realize that all of the assault rifles that normal people can purchase on a day to day basis are single fire and to change that to an automatic weapon is a felony that will get you several years in a federal pen. Now to purchase a fully automatic version you must first get your class 3 license and this only happens if you live in a class 3 state and you can pass a 6 month federal background check. Now that you are licensed you may purchase your first automatic weapon. The cost of these guns range from $10,000 to over $120,000 and there is another six month waiting period. Now to address the ammo stick piling issue. All I have to say is when the world goes to shit and you need a friend to protect you, you can come to my house. There are more than enough guns and ammo to go around as I was raised in a military family. Until then hunting and target shooting are loads of fun and when they are not being used everything is under lock and key.

      1. Wow, you believe the Aurora incident was planned by the government, specifically by the Obama Administration? Dude, get some help. And for god’s sake don’t buy any more weapons.

  5. Here in Sweden, things are as they should be; automatic weapons are basically impossible to get, other weapons are slightly tricky to get but not really hard (as long as they’re designed for hunting or sports), while cheeses are no problem 🙂 People may kill people, but they do it a hell lot easier with an assult rifle.

    1. Well the automatic weapons we can get in the U.S. are pretty hard to get legally. I also failed to mention that you also need the approval of the chief of police for your city, and once you have all the permissions in place you now have given legal right to the authorities to search your property at will with no warrant. Therefore those of us who go about it legally are not the ones you have to worry about. We dont want to loose something as expensive as these guns. I also have no problem with chef hans posting this and fully understand the underlying statement. However when I posted my original comment I seem to have offended some people who want to turn this into a second amendment arguement and refer to those of us who enjoy this particular right “gun nuts”. What ever if you would like to continue the arguement maybe you could drop by and we can have some of my favorite Arizona Green Tea and sit on the porch and discuss it. This is in no way an invite to fight only have a discussion. Maybe we will even have some faux French cheese. Ha. Thanks.

      1. I’ll give you one thing; you’re consistent. You continue to argue while you accuse others of the same thing (your response to simon).

I’m gonna go with paranoid (as in fearful). And the argument that 6 out of 10 shootings is accidental doesn’t exactly support your argument that anyone and everyone should have as many weapons as possible. All the more reason to require gun control laws.

I believe that MOST humans are by nature violent. We’re born violent and its up to our parents to train us to be civilized. It’s quite obvious they often fail.

Hans, still thinking about that Cheese! Never been to France, but am so hoping to get there one day.

  6. One bit of information for all of you. The moron in Colorado didn’t use an automatic weapon. Out of the 35 weapons shown in your photo only 7 are legal for purchase without a special license from the government. And this is only after the extensive backround check. I understand that for your position that you need to show photos of weapons to scare the uninformed. But be ready to be called out on misinformation that your posting. As several poster have already done. The average 24 year old is not getting his hands on these weapons.
Its a shame that 13 people lost their lives, but if the moron was to have used what was at his apartment, the number of dead and wounded would have been much larger. The moron was very intelligent. I’m sure that he picked up the ingredients for those items at the hardware store and Walmart.

    P.S.
Canada has more firearms per capita then the USA, yet about the same death’s by firearms per year as Germany. What about that fact ? There’s got to be a reason !?

    1. Just a guess, but I think Canadian folks are a tad less paranoid than Americans. We seem to fear everything and I believe that fear leads to violence. It’s kind of embarrassing.

      1. How about this one? In america there are 10.27 deaths per year per 10000 ppl. Of those 10.27 4.14 are homicides. We have more ppl shooting themselves than other ppl. Maybe we should prescribe more zoloft and zannex. Ha not realy thats the last thing we need, more drugs.

  8. I heard 80 million americans own guns I find it funny that we don’t have 80 million americans going on rampages with them? as for raw dairy I dont know why it is illegal, people have drunk raw milk for eons, my guess it has to do with monopoly on selling dairy by the corporations who had such bad livestock care and hygeine that they had to pasturized theirs to make it edible. raw milk if gotten cleanly won’t hurt you. but alas they won’t allow us to have it in ohio. by the way I think that people should not be micromanged,.the nanny state is really the corporate profit management group. safety concerns is a front.

  9. Hi all. Wonderful post! The sweet and sour type. Or “aigre-doux” as we say in France…

As a French Officer stationned here in the US, I must say that sometimes some people seem confused figuring out their “rights” from their “duties”. Here’s my two cents:

    – As a soldier, it is my “duty” (my job, as well) to carry and use an assault rifle.

    – As a citizen, it is my “right” to purchase and eat the food I want. The finest cheeses made on earth, for instants. Why would anyone ever deny me this pleasure, this freedom? Seriously, is that for real?

You guys are a great Nation, in a magnificent Country! And so thought my ancestors. Don’t wreck it, just chill out… Zombies are no for real!

PS: Vote for me and I might think about a 28th Amendment on “Cheese Imports”! 😉

What a beautiful area!(I lived in Strasbourg for 8 years). The best pastry I remember from back then is called “Foret Noire” (literally “Schwartzwald”): a delicious and elaborate cherry liquor (schnaps?) flavored chocolate cake! Simply wonderful…

  10. Hia All – reading through all of the responses to the original post is fascinating. It’s surely an emotional topic to all – both the availability of unpasturized cheese, and the ability to buy weapons (legally or not).

Arguments notwithstanding – we DO have gun laws. We DO have background checks. The image was NOT really real – because of the laws on most of the weapons shown. Yes the murderous wingnut in Aurora did buy his stuff legally. Other murderous wingnuts have not.

Assume you DO take the guns away – people who have wanted to kill… with or without a gun… will kill. People who want to maim, hurt, swing out at others will do so, and have done so for centuries without the need for a gun… since we as a species first picked up rocks and beat someone over the head with them.

The assumption that you can ban anything (guns OR cheese) and prevent harm is false. It’s based on a false premise that we can control how people behave and by conclusion remove the danger that we pose to each other is a magic wish, and also not real.

If we as a society think we can regulate behavior by law, than by all means, write laws against butter, soda, bread, automatic weapons, cars, advertising, and nudity. I would be interested to see how the law against large soda’s in NY have any impact on childhood obesity. I seriously doubt it.

This is a dangerous path to go down, but then again – (and I didn’t say this – I found it elsewhere) – the price of safety is freedom.

    Just my 2c.

PS; I have been to France, and Germany – I was raised on unpasturized milk, and don’t own a gun but my family does. Somehow I’ve survived. That doesn’t stop someone from taking a truck and taking me out along with 8 or 10 others in a nasty freeway crash just because he or she wants their name in lights or to make a point…. all without any guns OR cheese.

  11. Since I am not a member of “a well regulated Militia” I am not in the need of any guns.
However, I m a cheese aficionado. In the event an assault on my person is imminent, I take the lid off the jar with the Limburger cheese. Any armed, brave, red-blooded American male is rendered defenseless by THAT weapon.
